Mario Cristobal isn’t going far after his surprising firing as FIU’s head coach. He’s just headed to Coral Gables.
According to reports, Cristobal will join Al Golden’s Miami Hurricanes staff as an associate head coach.
According to an AP Source, Cristobal will also coach the team’s tight ends. He had previously coached tight ends and the O-Line at Miami from 2004-2006. Current tight end coach Brennan Carroll (Yes, Pete’s son) will take over wide receivers.
It’s a good move for both the ‘Canes and Cristobal. The guy is a Miami alum, and already has a firm grasp on local recruiting. He managed to do just fine while turning FIU into a team that went to back-to-back bowl games for the first time in their short history, and we imagine could only do better in recruiting with “The U” brand once again on his shirt.
