Don’t expect Mark Buehrle’s four year, $58 million contract with the Miami Marlins to translate into a boon for Miami’s real estate market. That’s because Buehrle’s family is literally banned from living within Miami-Dade County. Well, one member in particular: “Slater” Buehrle, the family’s 18-month-old American Staffordshire terrier. Despite the breed’s fancy name, its basically a type of pit bull, and those have been banned in the county since 1989.
Unsurprisingly, Buehrle is jumping straight into his new would-be home’s political scene by attacking one of the county’s most controversial ordinances.
“It’s kind of ridiculous that because of the way a dog looks, people will ban it,” he tells the Herald. “Every kind of dog has good and bad, and that depends on the handlers. If you leave a dog outside all the time, it’ll be crazy. Slater would never do anything harmful.”
Buehrle has now found a home in South Broward County, where pit bulls are welcome.

Incidentally, just yesterday in Broward County, a pit bull attacked a woman and her nine-year-old and two-month-old child. The mother and the child were taken to the hospital as a result of the attack.
