Hugo Chávez is a dictator! Come and put us behind bars, Sean Penn!
You know a favorite pastime of dictators? Imprisoning journalists. So it’s a little strange and totally stupid that self-important actor Sean Penn is defending his friend Chávez, president of Venezuela and a known dictator, by suggesting that any American journalist who calls him a dictator should wind up behind bars.
“Every day, this elected leader is called a dictator here, and we just accept it and accept it. And this is mainstream media. There should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies,” Penn said Friday on Bill Mahr’s Real Time.
Regardless of whether you think Chávez is a dictator, we’re pretty sure a hallmark of non-dictatorships is freedom of the press. You know, systems where journalists don’t get jailed. Maybe if Chávez looked into that, Americans wouldn’t call him a dictator so much.

Of course, Penn is just a giant, whiny asshole whose personal views shouldn’t be given the spotlight.
He went on CBS’s Sunday Morning and had a message for his detractors: “Do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah.”

Then, according to TMZ, he got into a confrontation with his ex-wife’s new boyfriend at the Oscars.

Theory: No one else will hang out with Sean Pen because he is such an ass, so he pretty much has to count the likes of Chávez as pals.
