Nineteen-year-old U’Laun Jamar Volthire is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center this morning on charges of domestic violence and attempted murder.

His mother, 38-year-old Yolanda Ferguson, is at Kendall Regional Medical Center recovering from emergency surgery after she was stabbed multiple times by her son.

Police say the incident happened around 2 this morning at a home on the 10700 block of SW 224th Terrace.

Volthire entered his mother’s bedroom, climbed on top of her, and stabbed her multiple times in the head and neck, according to NBC Miami.

Ferguson also has three younger children, and after hearing screams, her daughter entered the bedroom.

Volthire fled, and after a failed attempt to take his mother’s car, he took off on foot and ended up at a nearby bus stop. That’s where police found him covered in blood.

WSVN adds that Volthire has a history of mental illness.

Volthire kept a semiregularly updated collection of social media pages online, but none of them hinted at any problems with his mother.
