Riptide isn’t in the habit of giving away robbery tips, but it’s pretty obvious that once you pull off your heist and get your cash you need to run like hell. Well, a quick-thinking gas station store clerk foiled a robbery attempt by suggesting that they also load up on beer. As it turns out, trying to run away with bags full of beer cans does not make for a quick or easy escape.

The incident happened at 5:30 a.m. yesterday at the Shell gas station at 17080 NW Seventh Ave. According to WSVN, 22-year-old Johnny Antron Love entered the store, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded cash. The clerk, David Paul-Lamour, played it cool after tripping off the silent alarm.

“I gave him the money, and he started taking the money, and I said, ‘Oh, let me bag it for you,’ so I started bagging it, and I said, ‘You know what? You should double bag it,” Paul-Lamour told the station. “I’m just stalling, waiting for them [police] to come.”

The clerk then suggested to Love that while he was robbing the store he might as well grab some beers too. He gave Love some bags and the their raided the beer freezer. He had a bit of difficulty though, as he dropped the bags and his gun a few times.

With cash and beer in hand, Love tried to take off, but as he exited the store the beer bag split in two. The cans rolled around the parking lot and Love tried to collect them. That’s when police showed up. Love tossed the cash, left the beer and took off, but police were able to apprehend him.
