The Miami Heat’s very own James Jones won last night’s NBA All Star three-point contest, becoming the fourth member of the franchise to win the competition, joining Glen Rice, Jason Kapono and Daequan Cook.

And to make it an even more amazing feat, he did it by beating out Boston Celtics teammates Paul Pierce and Ray Allen in the final round. And it’s a good thing too, because TNT can’t go five minutes without showing Ray Allen’s mom in the stands whenever he does something even remotely good.

Way to go, James Jones!

Jones beat out Kevin Durant, former Heat Dorell Wright, and Daniel Gibson to advance to the final round with Pierce and Allen. Jones then scored 20 points in the final, dropping four of five shots, including the “moneyballs” that count as two-points each.

Allen had a chance to beat Jones in the end, but finished the final round with 15.

Jones called the victory a personal redemption, after coming back from a ruptured tendon in his shooting wrist that nearly ended his career back in 2008.

“I always wanted to prove to myself that I could be labeled one of the best shooters in this game,” he said. “I think I proved it here today.”

“We’ve had our struggles with the Celtics in the past,” he then added. “But the Heat came out on top today.”

Beating out one Celtic would have been fantastic enough. But to go out and beat their two best shooters? That deserves some kind of cash reward. Or a hero’s parade like they used to do for the astronauts back in the day? Or perhaps a lifetime supply of free lap dances at Tootsies? Maybe throw in a miniature horse that poops golden nuggets?
