All it took was for super-agent Drew Rosenhaus to go on WQAM yesterday and say he “wouldn’t be shocked” if the Dolphins signed Tim Tebow because Stephen Ross is a “fan” to start the latest Tebowmania rumor. This despite the fact the Dolphins don’t particularly need another quarterback, let alone a bad one.
Still, that bit of information made its way around Twitter yesterday, thanks in part to Fox Sports senior NFL writer Alex Marvez.

Of course, one really shouldn’t be “shocked” by anything Dolphins owner Stephen Ross does, especially when it comes to perceived publicity. Fergie is a minority “owner” of the team. He let T-Pain remix the sacred Fins’ theme song. We “wouldn’t be shocked” if he signed Justin Bieber to the team for a day if he thought it would sell tickets, y’know?
Cue the sports content farms churning out articles on the rumor: Bleacher Report, Fansided, and Rant Sports. Even CBS Sports and the Sun-Sentinel took the bait.
Sure, Tebow understandingly is still a legend to a lot of Floridians, but the fan base isn’t exactly concentrated here in South Florida. UF fandom overlaps more with Bucs or Jags territory. Plus, Ross is trying to get himself public financing for a new stadium, so maybe controversial signings guaranteed to generate fractured publicity are not the greatest idea right now.
Then again, if Tebow decides he’s ready to accept a position other than QB and the team honestly thinks it could use him, so be it. He’s just another football player at the end of the day.
