Under President Donna Shalala, the University of Miami has seen a slow but steady rise in U.S. News & World Report’s highly touted college rankings. Last year, it became a top 50 university for the first time. This year, it continued to climb and became the highest-rated school in Florida. Later, Gators.
After coming in at number 50 last year, UM now sits at number 47, where it is tied with Penn State and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Founded only in 1925, University of Miami is also one of the youngest schools to reach the top 50.
That’s great and all, but we bet more competitive UM alumni will be happy to know that Miami for the first time outranks University of Florida. UF fell to number 53 this year.

159. Florida Institute of Technology
179. University of Central Florida
183. University of South Florida
