The Rapture: Singing in the name of vodka

Say what you will about the superficiality that permeates our sun-drenched city, but once in a while a bash rolls around that draws you to the uber-fab VIP posse like a coke-whore to an ugly, short, rich sugar daddy.

This Tuesday Nocturnal and Smirnoff will host such a spectacle — hopefully minus the leery, wrinkled fossils — in honor of Piotr Smirnov, the originator of that silky smooth libation we have come to know, love, and rely on: Premium Vodka. (Him, and the fact that vodka has become the world’s largest selling premium spirit.)

To show their appreciation, the nice people at Smirnoff have organized a world tour of sorts in support of the destinations that helped shape their brand: Moscow, Shanghai, Paris, and … Miami?

They’ve nabbed iconic deejays Danny Tenaglia and Murk (Oscar G & Ralph Falcon) to spin a classic set on the ones and twos, aided by Chicago’s electronic music mastermind Felix Da House Cat.

And if that doesn’t get your grove on, the pice de resistance, showcased in the club’s black room, will be a live performance by New York’s legendary underground band The Rapture.

Their 2003 debut Echoeswas described by Spin as near-perfect backdrop to the whiskey-soaked, coke-dusted nights of postmillenial New York City. Their latest effort, Pieces of the People We Love was among Rolling Stone‘s best 50 albums of 2006.
