That old-school jacking house sound from the early ’90s made a big comeback in 2010. One of its pioneers was none other than Miami’s Oscar Gaetan, who along with DJ Ralph Falcon and their seminal Murk Records single-handedly put Miami on the house music map two decades ago.
Under the monikers Liberty City, Funky Green Dogs, Deep South, and more, Oscar G and company gave house a dark, sultry edge and infectious vocal hooks that would take clubland by storm. They would see seven consecutive singles reach #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and have attained legendary status for a new generation of DJs digging those deep classic cuts.
Today, Oscar G is busier than ever, alternating between his long-standing DJ residency at Club Space and Tropicasa party at Little Havana’s Hoy Como Ayer, and regular stints in NYC, where he recently recorded his Live From NYC compilation mix at megaclub Pacha. Now the Murk man is bringing his “Made in Miami” big-room house party to Mansion on Saturday.
In the meantime, brush up on your old-school Murk with these five classics.
