Floridians Googled Michael Sam’s Kiss, Carmen Carrerra, and Obamacare More Than Any Other State This Year

Google’s official “Year in Search” feature was pretty tame, but if you really want to know whats on America’s mind you should definitely look to the controversies, tabloid stories, and celebrities that defined this year. Estately decided to do just that and see which odd things each state Googled.

Oklahoma, it turns out, was really concerned about Ebola. Vermont was super curious about Lena Dunham. Californians spent a lot of time Googling Kate Upton.

As for Florida? Well, we took a special interest in Michael Sam’s draft day kiss, transgender model Carmen Carrera, and lakefront wig and beard-haver John Travolta. Hmm, we’re sensing a theme here.

To come up with the list Estately ran the terms through Google Trends to see where they were most popular.

$30,000

Here’s the six that Florida took particular interest in.

Michael Sam’s Kiss

To celebrate his last round drafting to the St. Louis Rams Sam smooched his boyfriend, Vito Cammisano, on the lips on national TV. Florida seemed more concerned about that hot, hot action, while Georgia Googled “Michael Sam boyfriend” more and Missouri simply just searched for “Michael Sam.”

Carmen Carrera

Related

After appearing on the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Carrera transitioned into life not only as a woman but also a professional model. She made high-profile appearances on shows like Katie Couric’s, shot high-profile fashion shoots with mega-photogs like David LaChapelle and Steven Klein, and found herself in the middle of a controversy over whether or not drag queens should be able to use the word “tranny.”

Michael Douglas

Though he reconciled with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2013, divorce rumors still plagued the couple in 2014.

John Travolta

Related

Travolta’s biggest contribution to this year was mispronouncing Idina Menzel’s name at the Oscars, though rumors about his personal life, religion, and hairline continued to swirl.

Obamacare

Still trying to sign up, we’re guessing.

Jeb Bush

Related

He spent most of the year surrounded by speculation that he was going to run for president before confirming that he was interested. As our former governor, at least this one makes sense.
