Today Miami Beckham United unveiled plans for what a soccer stadium sitting on land currently occupied by a boat slip next to American Airlines Arena would look like. With backing from both County Mayor Carlos Gimenez and City Mayor Tomas Regalado, the site has become the frontrunner for a new soccer stadium after plans for one at the port were ditched.

Though, the released imaged do not actually include much of an idea of the design for the stadium (that will likely depend on whether the possibility of the Miami Hurricanes also residing in the stadium becomes a reality), they do show what would become Museum Park and stress a net increase in overall parkland.

Here’s what the land will look like once the boat slip is filled in. The stadium will sit about evenly with American Airlines Arena.

By the way, here’s what the area currently looks like (at least according to the latest satellite images from Google Maps):

Half the stadium will sit on 4.2 acres of existing park land (the other half will be on land that doesn’t exist yet). Though 8.5 acres of new parkland behind the AAA will compensate for the loss.

The team is seriously stressing that increase in parkland.

Some hand-sketched drawings if you’re into that kind of thing.

Just a bunch of happy people chilling in a park. Look at them, just walking children in nature.
