The Miami Hurricanes basketball team walked away with an ACC tourney championship and a ride to the sweet sixteen last season, but expectations have been considerably lowered this season. The ACC media has picked the ‘Canes to finish 12th out of 15 in the conference. Which is what happens when you return exactly zero starters.
Here’s the ACC Operation Basketball 2013-14 Preseason Poll:
1. Duke (50)2. Syracuse (3)
3. North Carolina (1)
4. Virginia
5. Notre Dame
6. Pittsburgh
7. Maryland
8. Boston College
9. Florida State
10. NC State
11. Georgia Tech
12. Miami
13. Wake Forest
14. Clemson
15. Virginia Tech
Womp. Womp. Four of the five starters from last season were seniors, while sophomore (and ACC player of the year) Shane Larkin left for the draft (where he was taken 18th by the Atlanta Hawks).

While the ‘Canes have replenished with a talented stock of JuCo transfers and freshman, it may be a while before those players mature, and, uh, “The U is back.”
So Miami Hurricanes football is undefeated, the basketball team is pegged for the bottom half of the league, and all seems back to normal in Coral Gables.
