Karl Thompson, accused of scamming victims in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, is sitting in jail awaiting trial on felony counts of grand theft, organized fraud, and resisting arrest without violence.
Before his arrest this past October 6,the North Miami Police Department opened an investigation into Thompson after three victims alleged that he tricked them into paying deposits on condo units he was pretending to sell.
Marie Monestime informed investigators that she gave Thompson a $2,000 check for a deposit for a condo located at 2130 NE 206 St. this past April 24. He showed her the property and even drew up a sale contract.
After Thompson took the money, he disappeared. He did the same to the two other victims. Monestime reported the alleged crime this past September 22.

Monestime says she met Thompson, who is not a licensed real estate broker, through a mutual friend who purchased a property through him. “He had an office,” she says. “And he talked like he knew what he was doing. He didn’t show any signs that he was a crook.”
She says that she calls the state attorney’s office every week to keep the pressure on. “I think they are building a pretty big case against him,” Monestime says. “He has a lot of victims.”
