CUT PTR SOME SLACK!
In response to the article “Get Out of Jail Free,” certainly certain people have a vested interest in attacking the pretrial-release program. The program has helped many citizens of this county get out of jail who shouldn’t be in jail. As for those violent individuals, I certainly agree that mistakes may have been made, but all the blame cannot be placed on PTR. Where was the state attorney when the release was being sought? PTR certainly is not a perfect program in our system, but without a doubt the overwhelming majority would say that it is a needed program and it does a great service to the citizenry of Dade County.

NEW TIMES OFFICE CATCHES FIRE, BURNS TO GROUND
A point of clarification: While the Metro-Dade Fire Department is the largest fire/rescue service in the southeastern U.S., serving all of unincorporated Dade County and 22 Dade cities, we have no plans at this time to serve any municipality in Broward County.

Therefore, while we are grateful for the mention of our August 3 open house in your calendar of events, the listing may have been more effective had the address been correctly identified as Homestead, and not Hollywood. Thanks anyway.

PROTECTING THE AMERICAN DREAM, ONCE A WEEK
I’m leaving Florida after a month’s vacation. I’ve visited Disneyland, Universal Studios, Metrozoo, boat rides, nightclubs, dance places, stage shows, et

cetera.
Guess what impressed me the most: Miami’s newspapers. Especially the free ones. Specifically your New Times. I believe the American dream is safe as long as periodicals such as yours exist. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.
