For almost the past nine years, at least one former player for the Miami Hurricanes has scored a touchdown in a regular season NFL game. That historic streak came to an end last night. After U alums went scoreless on Sunday, the sole Cane playing in Monday Night Football, nose tackle Vince Wilfork, failed to make a TD (not that that’s what he’s expected to do anyway). That means the streak has ended after 149 weeks.

The steak began in week 15 of the 2002 season as players from the 2001 National Championship game like Jeremy Shockey and Clinton Portis began to make an impact on the league. Other players like Andre Johnson, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, Kellen Winslow II, Sinorce Moss, Jimmy Graham and Leonard Hankerson helped keep the streak alive.

The Canes long streak of having a player picked in the first round of the NFL draft, which dated back to 1994, also ended in 2009. It only seemed a matter of time until the touchdown streak came to an end as well.

Winslow, now playing for the Tampa Bay Bucs, did in fact make a TD catch over the weekend, but that score was called back after Winslow was called for pushing off against Sam Shields, another ‘Canes alum.
