Newer-ish outfit Plains is poised to release a brand new 7″ single this Friday at Bar and here at Crossfade we’re pleased to share with you the B-side to that effort, “Stuck in the Night.” This band comes with a pretty good pedigree. Technically the brainchild of Honor Roll’s Michael McGinnis, he’s surrounded himself with office-mates and shiny locals like Jorge Gonzalez Graupera (of Guajiro and Jorges fame), Morphologic’s Jared McKay and Awesome New Republic’s John Hancock.

Their sound is certainly grounded in the shoegaze/post-punk but with heavy nods to articulate New Wave, power-pop and that odd nexus in the early 90’s when the grunge kids began to dig on 80’s punk with a look towards the appeal of the singer/songwriter style of composing. If anything, it’s danceable so I’d even venture to say that it is dance-punk for the indie crowd. For fans of the finer things in life, like Interpol and Hüsker Dü and local like Beings and Map of the Universe.

Check them out on Friday and pick up the slab of wax. Vinyl rules. You should know that by now.

Plains with Animal Tropical at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 3 at Bar, 28 NE 14th Street, Miami. No cover. 21+. Call 305-663-9345 or visit www.28ne14st.com.
