The last time we checked in with the Weston-by-way-of-Bogota, brother-heavy indie act Old Wives’ Tale was this past June. Then, the band had just released its debut album, and was set to embark on a mini European tour.
What we forgot to explain, though, is that the reason for the tour was kind of a big deal — the band had won the “Audience Choice Award” from Babelgum.com‘s Video Music Awards. Sure, there are plenty of bloggy music awards these days, but this one stands out because of who, exactly, decided on the final “audience choice” winner. Old Wives’ Tale’s video for “[15] Amphetamine” got that nod from Michel Gondry, the director, most famously, of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Here’s an interview with Gondry for the fancy schmancy UK newspaper the Guardian, in which he mentions the video briefly.
Check out the winning video and download the song after the jump.
