When Natacha Seijas wants something done, you have to read between the lines. You have to decipher her messages with the keen sensibilities of a mob button man when he gets the order to whack somebody.
So when a friendly county fire-fighter forwarded Banana Republican a letter the Miami-Dade County commissioner sent to every man and woman who puts out fires around our community, I had to read only the last sentence to figure out what Seijas wanted. And that is for the county’s fire union to back off of its campaign to get rid of her buddy, county fire Chief Herminio Lorenzo.
After spending five paragraphs telling county firefighters everything she has done for them, Seijas writes, “Because of my historical strong ties to the firefighters, I want you all to know that I am seriously disappointed by the recent activities of the [fire union’s] leadership team relating to the fire chief.”
One doesn’t have to be Fredo Corleone to see through Seijas’s veiled threat: Keep messing with my boy, and the fire union and its members will pay.

The April 19 correspondence didn’t sit well with Harold Schaitberger, general president of the national office of the International Association of Fire Fighters. He wrote to local chapter president Dominick Barbera this past April 26.
“I am concerned with her last, unsupported statement,” Schaitberger wrote. “I think it is important to read between the lines.. .I urge the members not to succumb to intimidation, implied or not, by any politician.”
