Why is it that everyone expects New Year’s Eve to be so awesome when the preceding 364 days sucked so hard? Maybe all this emphasis on the End is just some banal expression of Western Civilization’s apocalyptic mindset. Or maybe we’re all a bunch of overstimulated creeps incapable of enjoying simple shit like friends, slow jams, and a bottle of bubbles.

In any case, despite the negative vibes and past disappointments, we’ve made a resolution to give this bitch our best shot. And so, since the New Year’s Nazis say it’s time to party, we may as well party at one of our favorite Palm Beach County spots, Respectable Street. As part of the 500 Block Bash, Respectables will be getting theme-y with 2010: A Space Odyssey starring Stonefox, Music is a Weapon, Astari Nite, Kill Now, Mission Veo, and Updawg. The best part though … It’s totally free.

Wow. That feels weird. We’re almost amped about this thing.

Thursday, December 31. Respectable Street, 518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. The party starts at 8 p.m., and there’s no cover. 561-832-9999; respectablestreet.com.
