New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is over and done with – and the models can eat (rice cakes) again. Each winter, the tents at New York’s Bryant Park bubble over with clothes, accessories and fashionistas directing the entire world towards what’s hot and chic for the upcoming fall season.

This year one of our local designers, Karelle Levy of KrelWear, threw her very stylish, knitted hat into the fray at EXPOSE, a juried designer showcase at the Bryant Park Hotel. You may have seen her work at Basel’s SCOPE art fair or last month’s cover of Ocean Drive, but the New York set was blessed with what Levy calls “quickie couture” aka Krel 2 Go. “We made around 40 pieces in one day, it was pretty intense,” said Levy. “I brought a trunk full of fabric that I’ve made over the past few years, people picked what they like, I pinned it on their body and sewed it on the spot.”

If your pockets weren’t fat enough to make it to the Big Apple, you can still get your very own piece of Krel 2 Go when the knitty gritty tour stops in the Magic City.

On Saturday, February 28, Levy will be back at it from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. in her Miami studio (180 NW 25th St.). Her Fall ’08 line is currently on sale for 70 percent off — so while you drop by for a peek at new-age couture, pick up some heavily discounted product. It’s a steal. But don’t steal. Call 305-528-2755 or visit www.krelwear.com for info.
