The flyer for “The Bubble,” the grand opening of the IWAN Concept Production Facility located off Fourth Avenue and 8th Street in downtown Fort Lauderdale, promised a great show. But the event also marked the beginning of something that was seriously missing in Broward: a hub for local talent to develop, play, record, display, hang out — whatever it is artists need to do to get inspired and cultivate a creative base.
Works by 15 artists hung on the walls around and above the crowd, as an eclectic mix of music from the gritty punk of the Holy Terrors to the funky, New Wave rock of The Microdots, to the abrasive, in-your-face rock of Dooms De Pop blared from the stages. People weaved in and out of the venue all day, rain or not, watching bands perform inside, then following the ebb and flow of the crowd to the outside stage, to waiting for beer, and then back inside.
