Have you seen Shakespeare’s Hamlet and thought to yourself, This tragedy about a guy avenging his dead father needs more people singing? If so, you’re in luck. Composer Carson Kievman this Friday will present a highly original and totally rad operatic version of Hamlet, enjoying its world premiere at Little Stage Theater at SoBe Institute of the Arts (2100 Washington Ave., Miami Beach).
Kievman’s Hamlet retains all the elements that make Shakespeare’s ingenious tragedy the emotional barnburner it is, while delivering it in a contemporary way for modern audiences and opera lovers alike. The show promises to stay faithful to the story yet give it a pulse and a kick with the help of a talented cast as well as the musical direction of acclaimed New York opera conductor John Yaffé. Tickets are $100, which includes a VIP champagne celebration sponsored by Laurent-Perrier and Sylvano Restaurant.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Feb. 24. Continues through March 11, 2012
