Remember all of those minimal techno gems from 2005? Neither does anyone else. That’s because minimal is mostly dull, monotonous, nondescript dance-floor fodder.

If you ask us, it takes melodies and hooks to truly distinguish a dance track. Take the baroque cosmic disco sound of Norwegian DJ-producer Todd Terje. He isn’t the most prolific of producers, with only a handful of EPs and disco edits under his belt. But it’s quality and not quantity that counts. Standouts such as his EPs Ragysh and It’s the Arps have garnered universal praise for their lush, melodious analog synth arrangements. And it doesn’t hurt that Terje’s catalogue includes releases on Running Back and Permanent Vacation, two of the most beloved nu-disco labels on the international scene.

Perhaps most impressive, though, is Terje’s skills as a selector. No surprise for a crate-digging groove guru of his caliber, this DJ’s sets run the gamut of crowd-pleasing floor sounds, from funk and soul to disco and house. Get it all when Terje throws down with Nightdrive Miami this Thursday.
