That new posh restaurant Christabelle’s Quarter, doesn’t fit into its neighborhood at all. The three-story Cajun-style building looms over its low-lying surroundings, and the nonstop parade of fancy Ferraris and polished Porsches zooming up to valet park is bringing a new sort of clientele to the normally casual Grove scene. Having ventured inside Christabelle’s, we’ve finally figured out the place. It’s a portal to another world, where New Orleans revelry meets Miami chic and everything seems louder and more fabulous.
Don’t linger on the cavernous first floor, although the enormous fish tanks are entrancing. And we’re not feeling the third floor, which is all about Nineties-style Miami techno booming in your chest. The transformative powers of Christabelle’s are most immediately apparent at the raw bar on the second level. The drinks are strong, the crawfish is finger-licking good ($15 for three pounds of the shelled suckers), and there’s live Dixieland-style jazz every night. Including tonight!
