So we all know what happens when a python tries to eat an alligator, but what about when one of those adorable little otters tries? Well, the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge has photographically answered that question on Facebook …and apparently otters ain’t nothing to mess with.

“Yes, the otter eventually pulled the alligator up on the bank and proceeded to consume it, as evidenced by crunching noises,” elaborated whoever controls the refuge’s Facebook page. “They were no longer visible at that point, but the alligator was done resisting when dragged out of the water. Despite their disarmingly cute appearance, otters are the apex predator of many freshwater habitats.”

Otters are the apex predator? Who knew? Now we’re going to have nightmares about otters.
